Beyond Bristol, 24 Country Walks

Robin Tetlow loves walking.

At a recent talk abut his book, he confided that he had walked each of these walks at least ten times.

And that he has another 24 lined up ready for the next book, but no, he wouldn’t divulge any of them to us.

I was given this book for Christmas last year and since then formed a small group to carry out the walks. We’ve got through over half and many of them are real gems.

All within 30 minutes’ drive of Bristol, they range from six to eleven miles in length. You can choose walks as far south as the Mendips and north to the Severn – arching round through the Cotswolds, Marshfield and back through Maes Knoll to Dundry.

If you ever see a path going off to one side while on a walk, and think ‘I wonder where that goes”, Robin will have tried it out for you.

He brings the best of the walks. He takes you to familiar places and then surprises you with an offshoot up to the top of the hill when the path looks like it should naturally carry on. Most walks are beautiful mixtures of woods, views, fields, streams and green lanes.

Clearly detailed in terms of where to park, what refreshments are available, Robin has also very helpfully included an OS map of each walk. each stage of the walk is given a paragraph and a point on the map so it’s easy to navigate.

I couldn’t walk for long without carrying the book in my hand. Many others we met along the way had the same idea. It’s very popular!

Available in all good bookshops and outdoor shops such as Taunton Leisure.
